About Us:

George Ray is a collection of ideas. With guitar in hand and an array of harmonicas within arms reach, he weaves a cushion of amalgamated song, story and thought. But don't get too comfortable. OK, get comfortable. Born to Texas, George grew up around music. "My mother used to tell me about playing solo acoustic guitar and singing at social gatherings for our church when I was a boy. Hearing that, I always had this fantastic idea of what it would be like to tell stories to people through song." His mother wasn't the only musical influence though. Country Western music played through the speakers of his father's 8-track pickup truck stereo every morning on the way to preschool. Sweet sounds of masterful trumpetwork bellowed from the walls of his big brother's room. The entire family frequently visited the sounds of the Beatles and Ricky Nelson from their home hi-fi. Music was a constant, and inevitability at the age of 16, George started down the path toward his own sounds. Jump ahead a few years to the age of 23, and begin an equation. Add the experience of a couple of high school / college garage bands plus working knowledge of bass, six-string and drums. Multiply that to the power of a personal music collection encompassing Bob Dylan, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, The Animals, The Byrds, Woody Guthrie, The Velvet Underground, Miles Davis, Elliott Smith, Radiohead, The Dandy Warhols, The White Stripes, The Shins, etc. Divide that by one acoustic guitar, x number of harmonicas, one microphone and a makeshift home studio. What is the solution' The production of George Ray - Self Titled LP. The music is free. The first record "George Ray" (self-titled) is an enhanced CD that includes 9 tracks of music making up over 50 minutes of sound, and bonus features, that when placed in a computer, unlock notes on influences, production history, personal philosophy and free electronic books ranging from Nietzsche, to Darwin, to the bible. A copy of the CD is free for the taking, but usually a bit of personal interaction is requested. George Ray wants to know the people that listen to his music. After shows, anyone who wants to come, stranger or not, is invited to the nearest diner/coffee house for hours of conversation. "My music isn't just about writing some songs and performing them. I want to know the world and the people around me. We all have something to share. How would I ever get to share anything without me getting to know those I live around'"
