Growing up in the Hollywood Hills, Tommy learned both guitar and piano at the early age of 10, but it wasn't until his days as a music major at Los Angeles City College that he began writing songs. Inspired by the big new wave movement at the time, a series of free concerts at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre during the summer of 1980 with artists like Micheal Des Barres, Jamie Sheriff, and Oingo Boingo was the catalyst that made Tommy pick up guitar and pen. Throughout the '80's and early '90's, Tommy wrote hundreds of songs and performed through his band INNOCENT BYSTANDER, which had several incarnations during the years, recording and performing at famous Hollywood nightclubs like the Roxy and the Whisky on the fabulous Sunset Strip. In 1992, he recorded a solo album called "Ghosts In The Firehouse," on which he played every single instrument. Unfortunately, the album was never released due to Tommy's continuing alcohol and drug addictions. After 17 years of alcoholism, in 1995, he hit rock bottom with an arrest for grand theft auto. While in jail, he had a deeply moving spiritual experience, and emerged six months later a new and sober man, and has remained so to this day. Believing that his story could be an inspiration to others, he spent the time period of 1996 to 2000 creating Christian based music specifically designed to minister to sufferers of alcohol and drug addictions. During that time, he wrote three Christian rock operas that were all performed to standing-room only audiences. Many addicts made pledges of sobriety immediately following the shows. In 2005, Tommy decided to get back to the musical roots that he loved most, and developed a brand new sound mixing hip-hop and techno beats and patterns with traditional electric guitar and vocals. He built a 24-track digital home studio and released a self-produced CD called "Fairly Twisted Logic." Besides working in the studio and performing live, he is currently acting as Music Supervisor for a documentary by Florence Ren Figueroa called UNDER ONE SKY. Tommy hopes to eventually produce music and write songs for other motion pictures.
ThrillTrain is a Dynamic Six piece group of some of the Bay Area's most talented musicians, made up of Jayna Blackwell, Danny James, Michael Garty, Emby, Eric (EJ Phat) Pratt & Dave Stewart. Our goal is to provide you with all of your Blues, Soul, and Rock & Roll musical needs. Audiences are thrilled by the depth and feeling of Jayna B.'s vocals. Her voice is reminiscent of the classic sweet soul sound of the premiere female vocal artists of the past. Jayna brings over 20 years of vocal experience to the mike and has performed with many groups including the ?Barron Edwards Motown 60's Music Review? and the ?Wade Love Band?. Guitar duties are shared by Michael Garty & Dave Stewart. Michael has been playing around the bay area for the last 8 years, after relocating from New Zealand , most recently in "Bandicoot" and "The Terry Jaye Project". Dave Stewart is a veteran of blues and soul music for over 30 years, and has worked with many bands such as ?The Fog?, ?Coast Side Favorites, and The Stage Road Rockers.? Keyboards are held down by Emby, who brings well over 30 years of musical experience to the group. He has produced and performed with many bands and artists in the Bay Area. The rhythm section is made up of Danny James on Bass and Eric Pratt on drums. DannyJ has been holding down the low end for 27 years and has worked with many local musicians including ?The Andre DeVito Band? and cover bands ?Flipside?, and ?Native Tongue?. Eric has been keeping the beats Funky for over 25 years with influences from Tower, EWF and AWB to name a few, his smooth and powerful rhythms moves the ?ThrillTrain' into high gear. This combination of talent and experience enables ThrillTrain to perform a wide range of musical styles that will encourage you to ?get up and boogie? all night long!!!
