About US
About Us:

Founded in 1987, The David Levin Swing Band added vocalist Regina Otto in 1995. Her voice is reminiscent of a young Doris Day and Gogi Grant, with shades of Ella Fitzgerald and Judy Garland. Many of the area's top sidemen have been part of the Band including many "A" players. One of the top small swing bands in California, the Band has appeared at The San Francisco Black & White Ball and at events at The Pacific-Union Club and the exclusive Burlingame Country Club in Hillsborough and has performed at many wedding receptions. The Trio version was the steady band at The Top Of The Mark in 1992. The David Levin Swing Band is a formally dressed band whose music adds elegance to any event, be it a wedding reception, corporate event or private party. The new DLSB CD demo mp3 tracks feature three "A" players--jazz great Vince Lateano on drums, Benny Goodman-style clarinetist, Jim Rothermel and Harry James-style trumpeter, Tom Leps (for the 6-piece). The new David Levin Swing Band Line-Up consists of: Regina Otto, lead vocalist. One of the most talented swing band and cabaret/jazz vocalists in the country, Regina Otto has a unique vocal range. She has been vocalist with The David Levin Swing Band since 1994. As a soprano/spinto (part alto), her incredible range allows her to go beyond what is considered ?the normal range? of most (alto) cabaret performers, yet she is not operatic. She demonstrates this effortlessly in her ?scatting? on Harry Warren?s ?September In The Rain?, Cole Porter?s, ?You?d Be So Nice To Come Home To?, the Gershwins? ?I Got Rhythm? and other famous jazz tunes. The sheer beauty of her voice is found especially in the Sammy Cahn-lyric ballads, ?I Fall In Love Too Easily? and ?Imagine?, a little known waltz from an obscure 1967 movie. As a matter of fact, Ms. Otto specializes in obscure movie songs such as ?Amado Mio? from the 1946 film noir, Gilda and ?Heartbreak? from another 1946 noir, Black Angel. In San Francisco area, Ms. Otto has appeared with her accompanist and bandleader Mr. Levin at The Plush Room, The Mark Hopkins Hotel, The Black & White Ball, Burlingame Country Club, Menlo Country Club and was the steady vocalist with The David Levin Duo at The Crowne Plaza Caba?a in Palo Alto. In New York, Ms. Otto appeared with Mr. Levin for The 1996 New Year?s Eve Party at the exclusive Fifth Avenue restaurant, Harry Cipriani. She also appeared with Mr. Levin at the former Park Restaurant & Bar in The Lombardy Hotel and The University Club on Fifth Avenue. Ms. Otto vocalizes with an EV 767 microphone and insists on Lexicon digital concert hall reverb for her performances. David Levin, pianist/bandleader/arranger. A prot?g? of swing great Johnny Guarnieri (of The Benny Goodman and The Artie Shaw Bands), David Levin has evolved from a classic jazz solo pianist into a band and cabaret concert" pianist. The pianist at The Rainbow Room in New York, The Mark Hopkins Hotel, the famous Blue Fox and The Pacific-Union Club in San Francisco, Levin has played for heads of state, Congressmen and other notables. He has appeared in the columns of the late Herb Caen and Pat Steger in the San Francisco Chronicle. He has performed at every major society event in San Francisco at least once. Tom Leps, Harry James-style trumpeter. Leps owns four of Harry James? personal trumpets and plays one of them on every performance. He is also a good vocalist, singing and playing solo trumpet on ?I Can?t Get Started With You?. His "Stardust" can be heard on our mp3 tracks. This band's unique song list consists of "up swing" numbers like Cole Porter's "Just One Of Those Things" to "medium swing" songs like "You Make Me Feel So Young" to film noir rumbas like "Heartbreak" to 40s slow foxtrots like "Stardust" and "I Had The Craziest Dream". The David Levin Swing Band contracts an experienced sound company for all its performances. Their sound system includes the high profile Bag End floor monitors.
