SALSA CANDELA is a tight group of friends with a passion not only for Latin dancing but for inspiring and helping others in the community through dance. Our most popular dance is rueda de casino salsa: a joyful, sociable, Cuban-style circle dance where a leader calls out moves performed by couples who switch dance partners with dizzying frequency! Candela also dances and gives mini-lessons in chachachá, merengue, bachata and West Coast Swing en español. Since our formation in Fall 2007, we have performed for First Night Austin, the Old Pecan Street Festival, XemumbaFest, PachangaFest, Austin Friends of Folk Art, Mexic-Arte, Music Under the Star at the Texas State History Museum, City of Austin's Live at the Plaza, HAND of Austin (formerly Services for the Elderly), the Octopus Club at AIDS Services of Austin, Havana Nights, Lake Travis Water Tours, Esquina Tango and others. We are a true dance coop in that we are all friends (with families and day jobs) who wholeheartedly pool our individual talents in leadership, performance, choreography, marketing and costumes. One night of inspiration can lead to a lifetime of dancing, which is magic for the heart, body and soul! Ya que estamos en el baile, ¡bailemos! - Now that we're at the dance, let's dance!
