Oriente
Oriente is a ten-member ensemble that plays danceable, vocal-based Afro-Cuban music for all kinds of settings and occasions. Named after a region of Eastern Cuba that is the birthplace of many Afro-Cuban styles, the group's motto is "algo viejo, algo nuevo": something old, something new. Oriente's music is a mix of songs using contemporary salsa rhythms and songs in traditional Afro-Cuban styles, including son, danz'n, guajira, mambo, bolero and cha-cha-ch'. Oriente's plays original compositions as well as songs originally played by Eddie Palmieri, Marc Anthony, Afro-Cuban All-Stars, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, Tito Puente, Willie Col'n, and the Buena Vista Social Club. With strong lead vocals and unique instrumentation including violin, flute/saxophone, trombone, piano, tres/guitar, bass, conga, timbales and bong', Oriente's sound is both listenable and danceable, exciting and inviting.
