Azusa consists of Christian Zani (vocals, guitar), Edmund Auger (guitar, vocals) and Jimmy Young (Percussion). Zani and Auger met in 1987 while living in Guatemala. In 1991, at the age of 14, the two delved deep into their passion of music by writing, composing and collaborating on original pieces and covers. By the age of 16, Zani and Auger began doing live performances at numerous venues throughout Guatemala, recorded a professionally produced LP and continued to maintain the steady flow of original pieces. In 1995 the two separated for the sake of higher education, but with the ultimate intent of reconnecting to continue their focus on music. During this 5-year hiatus, the two were able to study music more intensively and hone in on their own musical tastes, roots and styles. In 2000 Auger shifted his musical focus towards the electronic music scene, while his counterpart focused on digging deeper into his roots of Latin America and song-writing. In early 2005, Zani left his home of San Diego, California to reconnect with Auger, currently a resident of Fort Worth, Texas. Earlier this year they have teamed up with Jimmy Young, of Fort Worth who is a long-time drummer and percussionist. The three are determined to continue the musical voyage they embarked on in many years ago. Azusa brings a complex yet soothing sound - a diverse mix of melodic guitar themes, vocal harmonies, driving beats and introspective lyrics. With influences from indie, alternative, Latin Rock, jazz and blues, it's hard to classify their sound with one word.
