About Us:

Brother E and the Blue Rhythm Kings is based in Albuquerque, NM. Their huge following contains people of all ages. Think Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin, Blues Brothers, Ray Charles, Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Bobby Blue Bland, and Sam Cook, with a little bit of the Drifters and Muddy Waters thrown in. They rock your socks off, then bring you down to the slow-dancing music that makes a crowd go crazy. Brother E (Eric Bland) was long known as the leading gospel singer among NM?s Black churches when Gary Millhollon (lead guitarist) moved here from Austin and augmented E?smusical tastes toward soul, blues and R&B. The producer of the Soul Train radio show described Brother E as ?a great singer with Sam Cook-looks and an Otis Redding soul.? Gary Millhollon, lead guitar, played for 10 years with T-Bone Turner?s Band and with Missing Pages in Austin, Texas. Millhollon has opened for or played with such other luminaries as SRV, Jimmie Vaughan, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, and (while in St. Louis) with the legendary Chuck Berry. His guitar work is strongly influenced by the three Kings ? BB, Freddie, and Albert. Bobby Clements (drums) is originally from California and was long-time drummer for the country-rock band, Country Generation. He has performed at Disneyland, Knottsberry Farms, The Cowboy Club in Orange County, and the Hunting Beach Pavilion to crowds of more than 3,000 people. His solid beat is the heart of the Blue Rhythm Kings. ?Jumpin? Jim Williams is a sax player extraordinaire and has played with many musical groups in New Mexico for over 20 years. His sax can wail with excitement or deliver a soul-full touch to slow songs. Jeff Scott (Bass and Harmonica) provides the backbone and has experience in rock and blues bands in New Mexico. His harmonica playing is always a highlight that crowds love when the Kings get down and dirty on the blues. Dano Thompson (keys & congas) and ?Dangerous? Gary Lucero (2nd guitar) have played with numerous blues and rock bands in New Mexico. The two bring a fullness to the complete sound of the Blue Rhythm Kings. Press -- "Truly one of New Mexico's best bands. Always a great show." --Nancy Laughlin, Director NM State Music Commission "Brother E sings with the best of them and those white boys backing him up can play the blues." ? Howlin? Lonnie Carruthers / Abq. Source "Brother E?s vocals bring back memories of Otis and Sam Cooke" --Soul Train radio program "When they did Freddie King?s ?Someday after a while? I thought I was back in the Macon AME Church"? -Slim "Hound-dog" Whatley -Missippi Chronicle (during visit to Albuquerque) "They were our top show at the State Fair this year--huge crowd that was dancing and clapping." -Sivlois Reeves, NM State Fair AA Pavilion Manager NOTE: W.C. Handy award winner Lousiana Red chose Brother E & the Blue Rhythm Kings to be his back up band at his recent western state concerts this past year. A noted blues musician, Lousiana Red has 12 CDs out and has recorded and played with BB King, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins and more. Red is considered a shoo-in for the Blues Hall of Fame.
