Book a Band Listing

About Us:

¡Contrafact! performs contemporary and classic Jazz, Pop and fusion with improvisation and strong emotion. Our play list includes a variety of songs, including several written by members of the band. The foundation of the band was laid in 2003 when two of the band members met while working on a project together. The group originally was formed as River City Jazz Group. RCJG toured around Austin playing familiar venues like threadgills, Nuevo Leone and others. By 2006 we were working several regular gigs and business was good, but getting 5 musicians to keep a regular schedule is like herding cats. so we began to bring other musicians into the group to help fill in when someone couldn't make a gig. this began the evolution of the concept behind ¡Contrafact! the group. Today, ¡Contrafact! consists of a core quartet: Paul Shelton on guitar, Todd Monroe on bass, Phil Chidester on keys, and John Traphagan on drums. As in the past, we can add instruments and voice to meet the needs of particular gigs.

about CARROL

A Natural On The Guitar, Carrol started his music career at the ripe old age of 14. By the time he turned 15, he was giving guitar lessons & playing on the local radio station every Saturday.
A lot has happened since those early days, but the Love Affair between a Guitar and That Young Boy has endured. Originally from Plainview, Texas, he has played all over Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas & New Mexico. Just back from an extended tour in New Mexico, Carrol has performed with some of the best in the business. A true professional, Carrol will keep you entertained from start to finish. A Love For Music has always been the catalyst for the next gig or studio session for Carrol. The former owner of two recording studios in Lubbock,TX, Carrol has played professionally for the last 30 + years with a variety of bands, several Duo & Trio Acts, and as a Solo Artist. The idea for a Computer Assisted One Man Band was a no-brainer for Carrol, he has a Computer Science Degree. The (Virtual) "Band" is always on time, never argues, and always plays the part right. Sounding more like a Full Band than a Solo Act, the years of experience on-stage plus a ton of "hi-tech know-how", The Music all comes to life when Carrol hits the stage. If You Love To Dance, you won't be dissapointed with Carrol Welch on stage, whether you like Classic Country, Country Rock, Classic Rock, or Rock n' Roll, This One Man Band Delivers. About Us:

Harry “O”, as he is known, was born in New York City in 1950 and was raised in Harlem. At the age of 13, he taught himself how to play guitar. By the 1970's, Harry “O” was a regular at the East Village blues jams being held at Broadway Charlie’s and Dan Lynch’s; sitting in with some of New York’s better known blues guitarists such as, Jonathan Kalb and Jon Paris. In 1978, he joined The New York Sound Exchange, one of many show/dance bands in which he played over the years, working various hotel lounges 6 nights/week/48 weeks a year, all over the country. In 1994 after a 2 year stint with Sun recording artist Eddie Snow, he formed Oysters Rockefeller, a hard working Blues and R&B based Band. The year 2000 marked the beginning of a two year stay in Chicago, where Harry “O” had the opportunity to share the stage and play guitar with such blues notables as: Chico Banks, The Bel-Aires, Billy Branch, Phil Guy and the Machine, Michael Hill’s Blues Mob, Willie Kent and the Gents, Johnnie Marshall, John Primer, and Sonny Rhodes. Harry Has been an S.I.T. String endorsing Artist for over ten years! Influences: I have always been influenced by what I heard on the radio. As a young boy, growing up in Harlem (New York City), I was listening to the likes of Ray Charles, Frankie Limon and the teenagers, The Platters and The Drifters, as well as a variety of Doo-Whop singing groups and maistream acts such as Mel Torrme, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin and don't forget the current (at the time) Jazz based TV themes. Later on The Ventures and Beach Boys from California became popular along with the British Invasion. After the Beatles I guess I was most influenced by the Blues based bands such as The Yardbirds, (Clapton, Beck and Page) which led to my studying the blues and later on Jazz
