Flamenco
Japanese Traditional Music and Free Style Improvisation
with an acoustic guitar.
Born in Japan, Taka has performed and recorded throughout the US in a variety of formats.
Taka moved to New Orleans after graduating music school in Tokyo, has played with Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Theresa Anderson, Kerry Brown (B.B King band), Alonzo Johnson (Bootsy Collins), Nat Jolivette (Eric Clapton, Buckwheat Zydeco), Dave Manley (Jill Scott, Herbie Hancock), to name a few.
Stylistically Taka's guitar style uses a finger-style technique that approaches the guitar like a piano.
Comping chord fragments and playing melodies simultaneously provide the backdrop for a more open style of playing and free improvising, with deeply influenced by flamenco, and of course, Japanese traditional music.
Taka believes that the harmonic aspect of the guitar has not been explored to its fullest and strives to exploit this area in all live performances.
